Biopsy-Proven Acute Tubular Necrosis due to Vancomycin Toxicity
Vancomycin (VAN) has been associated with acute kidney injury (AKI) since it has been put into clinical use in the 1950's. Early reports of AKI were likely linked to the impurities of the VAN preparation. With the advent of the more purified forms of VAN, the incidence of AKI related to VAN were limited to acute interstitial nephritis (AIN) or as a potentiating agent to other nephrotoxins such ...

Objective: Tramadol is a synthetic analgesic with two mechanisms. The opioid and non-opioid mechanisms are responsible for tramadol side effects. Non-opioid side effects of tramadol are due to the reuptake inhibitions of serotonin and norepinephrine. Some of the side effects include anaphylactoid reactions, CNS depression, hypoglycemia, hypotension, respiratory depression, seizures, and seroton...
متن کاملAcute Tubular Necrosis
A rapid rise in creatinine following periods of hypotension is most commonly due to acute tubular necrosis. In ATN, urinalysis usually shows granular casts. Urine sodium is typically high due to tubular sodium loss, concentration is typically above 30 mmol/l. The urine to plasma osmolality ratio <1:1, the ability to concentrate urine is preserved despite sodium loss. Acute Tubular Necrosis is a...
متن کاملA review of the pathology and pathogenesis of acute renal failure due to acute tubular necrosis.
Renal failure may present as anuria or oliguria. This may result from postrenal causes such as urinary obstruction due to stone or tumour, or from acute glomerular disease, but one common cause of acute oliguric renal failure is the group of conditions known as 'acute tubular necrosis'. These follow a period of shock or haemorrhage resulting in renal ischaemia or may be due to direct renal pois...
متن کاملAcute renal failure due to acute tubular necrosis caused by direct invasion of Orientia tsutsugamushi.
We describe a scrub typhus patient with acute renal failure for whom a diagnosis was made based on serology as well as immunohistochemical (IHC) staining and an electron microscopic examination (EM) of a renal biopsy specimen. For our case, we demonstrated by IHC staining and EM that renal failure was caused by acute tubular necrosis due to a direct invasion of Orientia tsutsugamushi.
